Optical Simulation of Gold Nanoparticles via Mie Theory

The Problem

A physics-based modeling study exploring absorption, scattering, and extinction behavior in spherical gold nanoparticles through Mie theory and numerical validation.

How We Solved It

Mie-based models were implemented in Matlab and Lumerical, then compared against FDTD simulations to identify peak extinction behavior associated with surface plasmon resonance.

Key Results

  • Surface plasmon resonance peak around 550 nm.
  • Absorption-dominant behavior for particles below 80 nm.
  • Strong alignment between theoretical and numerical models.

Business Impact

Demonstrates theoretical modeling, simulation validation, and signal interpretation relevant to sensing, photonics, and nanoscale optical systems.
